The Castlemen exit the FA Cup

A 77th minute goal from ex Wymondham striker Bryan Mullen was enough to see the home side through to the next round of the FA cup.

In front of a good size evening crowd. The home side were first to settle as Fram were getting used to some new players in the team however it was the Castlemen who had the first shot on goal, Charlie Coe's effort going wide of the post on 6 minutes, Joel Wilson for Diss then had a couple of good chances in the first 15 minutes that brought smart saves from Ben Vincent. As Fram came more into the game Alex Ling started to get on the ball and influence the game, his shot was narrowly wide on 22 minutes and the visitors earned three corners in quick succession as they pressurised the Diss defence. On 40 minutes Fram were unlucky not to score as Alex Ling chipped his shot from the edge of the area only for the ball to hit the bar and bounce back into play. Play was a bit scrappy at the start of the second half however Diss had the better of the chances with the lively Kieron Hagan creating most of the opportunities Mallone shot wide on two occasions before the home side took the lead on 77 minutes Mullen got the better of the Fram defender and shot across Vincent from 6 yards out. As Diss pushed forward Hagan took a dive in the area and the referee awarded a penalty only for the linesman to attract the referees attention and Hagan was booked for a simulation dive and the score remained 1-0. Ling shot into the defensive wall from a free kick late on and as the game came to an end the Castlemen, who were missing three key players, were disappointed however it is the start of a long season and the side showed promise with the performances of new boys Vincent and Carragher and the more experience Mayhew and Ling. Good luck to the Tangerines who progress to the next round away to Stamford.
